Addresses

Instances are automatically assigned a public IP address to access them from the Internet. When an instance is terminated, the address is reused by another instance unrelated to the account. Users can however allocate addresses for an account, which enables them to use a fixed set of addresses and associate them to their instances.

Allocating an address

  1. Select the EC2 service under the account you wish to allocate an address for.
  2. Select the Addresses tab.
  3. Click on the Add button.
  4. IP allocation may take some time. When an IP address is ready for use, it will show up in the address list.

Releasing an address

  1. Select the EC2 service under the account you wish to release an address from.
  2. Select the Addresses tab.
  3. Select the address you wish to release from the list of addresses.
  4. Click on the Remove button.
